January 6, 2007 – Vacation is over!
Aaaaaaargh! Vacation officially ends at midnight. The last two weeks have flown by and now it’s back to the real world. Then again, I did get two weeks of paid vacation so I really shouldn’t be bemoaning the fact that I now have to return to work.
Some people think that teachers have it easy, but let me tell you something. The reason we have so much more vacation time than the average person is because if we didn’t, we would definitely be candidates for the psych ward at your local mental institution. You try being in a small room with thirty-six 13 year olds. Go ahead, just try to imagine what that is like and see if you don’t agree that teachers need vacation time to maintain our sanity.
Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy my job after twelve years of teaching middle school, but vacations are a definite bonus. Anyways…
I’ve spent most of the vacation working on my website over at zoebluephotography.com and it’s coming along. I’m slowly learning to customize, but it’s a definite work in progress.
My goal this year is to get my photography business up and running. There are still a few more forms I’ve got to fill out to make everything official, but being a wedding photographer is a challenge! I now have to learn how to market myself. Heheh, it sounds like I’m for sale or something…Wait, I am for sale in a sense. Well, it’s more that I’m for hire and my services are for sale…Okay, that sounds even worse. No, I will not be standing on some corner anytime soon. Besides, this blog is rated “G.”
It’s just a bit strange to think about marketing myself. It’s much safer to say that my photographs will sell themselves, but in this day and age, that is no longer the case. A photographer has to be business savvy. I better take some business classes soon. That sounds so boring and I’m hoping for the exact opposite because anytime someone starts talking about anything that involves numbers and accounting, my eyes glaze over and I start chanting in my head “Happy place…Happy place…Happy place.”
And where would that “happy place” be? Yosemite, of course! I’ve got a trip planned up there over the weekend of the MLK holiday. Hopefully the weather won’t be too bad as in winter blizzard conditions. I love going up there during the winter, just don’t want to get caught in some blizzard with no hot chocolate in sight. By the way, Yosemite Lodge makes some of the best hot chocolate ever.
